Length functions and rigidity in geometry: from random walks to Riemannian metrics
In this talk we will discuss a variety of geometrical objects including Riemannian manifolds, metrics associated to random walks, length functions coming from representations and more. We will be interested in understanding when two of these geometries are `the same' and how can we distinguish them. Lots of examples will be given and pictures drawn! No prior knowledge of these geometric settings will be assumed.
